- Attended Immaculate Conception Grade School where Sister Juan Marie nurtured a love of reading and writing.
- Introduced to public speaking in third grade, an experience that later served as a cautionary tale for hundreds of college composition students when discussing unintentional plagiarism. (They prefered the story about the time a neighbor ran over her lip with a bicycle.)
- Mastered teletype moments before equipment became obsolete at JC Penney catalog department.
- Toured western Europe in a seaform gown (performed with Viterbo Concert Choir, Viterbo University).
- Taught composition at South Dakota State University while pursuing M.A. in Comparative Literature.
- Traded windswept plains for scenic river town. Taught witing, literature, and speech at Ellsworth Community College in Iowa Falls.
- Lured by a bigger river in a broader town, taught at Scott Community College in Bettendorf/Quad Cities.
- Married, moved, and began writing in earnest (or maybe it was Arizona).
